Intensive roof gardens, principally designed for their amenity value, can include lawns, bedding, shrubs, trees and hard surfacing. Because of the higher nutrient requirements intensive roof gardens usually comprise a thick soil or substrate layer, require regular maintenance and necessitate artificial irrigation.

Roof waterproofing under all green roofs has to be robust and long lasting and experience has shown that although intensive roof gardens can be installed on a warm roof (ALPAFLORE) they are better suited to a protected membrane specification (WILOTEKT-PLUS).

Drainage is important and Axter can offer a number of different drainage boards and filter layers to suit the demands of the landscaping.
